- The most important factor to be considered in the selection of sand filters is the surface where the water kisses the sand and the height of the sand layer in the filter. Before starting to fill the filters with sand, it should be ensured that the sprinklers placed on the filter base are not damaged by filling the filter halfway with water, otherwise, a cracking or dislodgement of a sprinkler will cause the sand filled into the filter to go completely into the pool or the feeding line pipe to be filled with sand. During the sand filling process, 1.2-3 mm sand should be placed in the middle level and 0.7-1.2 mm sand in the uppermost layer, until the bottom sprinkler surfaces are closed. It is recommended to reduce the velocity of the water in the sand as much as possible in order to keep the particles in the filter. When the sand filling process is completed, the top level of sand should be 10 cm below the level of the upper distributor pipe. Otherwise, a certain amount of sand will go to the drain while backwashing is being done.
